About Mr. Sefcheck

Hi everyone, I am Mr. Chris Sefcheck, a biology teacher from Pittsburgh, PA. I was born in Uniontown and attended the Laurel Highlands School District where I am a proud graduate. I spent 8 years in the United States Air Force and Pa Air National Guard before attending the University of South Carolina to major in Biology. Although I did not finish my degree there, I transferred to California University of Pa where I finished working on my biology degree as well as an endorsement in secondary and elementary education. Upon graduation, I began substitute teaching in both Laurel Highlands and Uniontown School Districts. Wanting a full time job teaching was my goal, so I accepted a job teaching 7th grade history in Las Vegas, NV. After my first year, I moved to 6th grade life science for two years before accepting a job as a biology teacher at Foothill HS in Las Vegas. While at FHS, I built an AP Biology program from the ground up since it was a new school. My initial class had 24 students and by the fourth year, I was up to over 100 students. My tenure at Foothill was filled with great personal and professional achievement. I was niominated and earned 12 teacher of the year awards from several different organizations and two of them coming from the City of Henderson. I have been awarded Congressional Recognition in two separate occasions for meritorious teaching in 2005 and again in 2007. After the 2006 school year, I moved to Coronado HS in Henderson, NV to take over an AP Biology program. My first year there, I was recognized once again by the City of Henderson as Educator of the year. While at CHS, I received my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Science Education from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. I worked at Coronado HS for three years before moving back to PA. to teach in the Laurel Highlands School District and work on my Administrative Degree adn Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility. I have two beautiful children that I love more than anything in this world. People always tell me that my son is a miniature version of me. I enjoy the outdoors and can easily be seen riding my bike, swimming in my pool, or working on the yard. Occasionally, you can even catch a glimpse of me playing basketball (inside only). I love teaching and learning! I will always be a student and found my life's passion in education.
